Couloir Spencer, 5.19.10

Post by Diamond Dachshund »

Cold temperatures have preserved the snow we have received on the North faces. Unfortunately strong winds from the N have hammered the snow up high, making dangerous windslabs everpresent.

Climbing up. There are several ways to attain the couloir. Most of them are unecessarily exposed to serac falls. But if you go lookers left, you get serious chambra points. I opted to go the safe way. I have plans.

Though it looks like it will kill you, it's actually a trick.

Looking back down. The lower part is steep but the snow was good. Nice and spiney. Here we see Guilhem and Sylvain.

Rando Ross. Hauling ass again.

Up higher it mellowed out a bit. Les peaux encore. You can almost see the Drus.

Guilhem.

Our top out. Ross and I turned around just above here because of the increasingly dangerous windslabs. But hey, they're the quickest way back to town.

The snow was good.

Then Ross and I projected this boulder.

Well thats about it. I think I'm done with that now. Time for rock.

Every picture from Chamonix just make me more stoked that I'm going to be there in a few days.
Hopefully I'll be getting some skiing in. Where can I rent gear?

Fuck! That's beautiful.

I say skip the rock and just go with topless sunbathing. You know its the eventual conclusion.

Way to go D. That line's been on my mind for 10+ years. I love the way you can see it from the valley. I'd always imagined going far climber's left, though, up towards the col de la buche. Your line is way better. Looks phenomenal. Fuck you.
