Angel's Crest and a fallen angel

Post by huevón »

Ran up to Squamish on Friday after skiing plans fell through, and managed to cruise through Angel's Crest before the monsoons swept through on Saturday night. Worked in the .10b hands variation and I got to 'onsight' every pitch, but we had to pass on High Plains Drifter on account of my worthy partner's foot pain (mistakenly brought the super-tight bouldering shoes; maybe I hadn't completely emphasized the 'adventure' aspect... ).

Emotional highlight of the day was perching at the top of the crest pitch, hearing a chute pop, looking left just in time to see a BASEr bail into the trees at the bottom of High Plains Drifter. W.T.F.

Dude just shimmied down a tree and walked away. Sick bro! :!:

We met him and chatted at the gully escape turnoff. Nice guy. Mostly the good kind of crazy. :) Still alive... must be doing something right? We told him we would keep it quiet from The Press and The Man.

Bailed early Sunday on account of flood stage conditions (that I am almost certain abated) and other plans. Need to go back soon and get on some of the amazing .10+ / .11's.

Nice. We saw the chute on our way through Squamish after Tricouni. There was some decent wind up on Tricouni. I don't know how it was at the chief, but it didn't seem like BASE jumping kinda wind... but then again I don't know shit about that stuff.

Sat and Sun was a gong show climbing in Squamish. Everything was busy. I have to get up there during the week next time.

That's awesome you got to see a live parachute crash climbing up the Chief. Did you have any wet pitches up Angel's Crest?

Way to send it clean. That bonus handcrack is nice. It seems like just yesterday we were gaping at Exit 32 and on the Great Northern Slab.
