Squamish snack time

Post by naomig »

The first sunny weekend in May and I meet up with Julie to climb something on the Apron. I had Diedre in mind but she suggested Calculus. I hadn't read the description of the climb but I though it's easy enough. I was looking for bolted belay stations but it was gear belay. I ended up climbing past my comfy belay spot due to this confusion. My belay wasn't very comfortable, but it was sunny and nice temps out.

We finished Calculus pretty early, had plenty of day to spear and headed over to Funarama in the Bluffs. My knee was aching but I was having too much fun to stop now. Our last climb was a 10b slab. We top-roped it since it was suuuuuuper tricky.

The next weekend I grabbed Ramona, who has practically never climbed out doors, and hauled her up Diedre. She was pretty scared to start with but I was having none of that. Even though we floated up easy slab I was excited that I got to lead the whole thing.

So, since it's the first time I'm posting something I messed it up a bit. All pictures are in backwards time order. I'll get it the next time.

The first pitch of Diedre: mostly run out slab. Gets the heart going a bit faster on your first pitch.

On to some 10b slab on Funarama. It requires 50% skills and 50% faith that you can stand on a single crystal.

This is ten kinds of win. A big round of applause for Naomi, Ramona and the big hunk of granodiorite at the head of the Howe Sound.
